Unregulated Use of Smartphones on Health
Nowadays smart phones play a significant role in almost every person's life. It has significantly changed the lifestyle of people and considered to be a basic need for days to day work.
It has made human life more comfortable and easy as it helps them to stay in touch with family, friends and keeps them informed of latest news and informations. It also enables them to store a lot of other data like photos, videos, memorable dates alongwith written thoughts and ideas. It keeps your loved ones in touch with you through calls, texts or messages. It also provides the information as to where you are and ways and directions to go anywhere through GPS system. World can listen your voice just in a touch. It has transformed the world like a Global village and it has become integral part of modern telecommunication in every individual life.
But its usage beyond certain limits adversely affects physical and mental health.
Blue light emitted by screens on cell phones, computers and TV restrains the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep wakeup cycle or circadian rhythm. Exposure during bedtime suppress sleep facilitating hormone melatonin, thereby delaying sleep onset. Moreover pre bedtime smart phone activities like chatting, facebook notifications, and video games gives rise to physiological and emotional arousal leading to disturbed and diminished sleep.
It is very important to disconnect kids from the time essence of social interaction for example games and other entertainment applications developed for kids. This may discourage them from interacting with other kids and people around. Excessive exposure in early age can cause poor eyesight. In children there is incresed risk of development of brain cancer from cellphones. Their nervous system are still developing and therefore more vulnerable to factors that may cause cancer.
Prolonged usage of internet on mobile or computer leads to sedentary behaviour. Excess mobile phone usage leads to changes in sleep cycle leading to worst sympathetic activity which disturbs the glucose levels in diabetic patients also.
Too much looking down your cellphones can strain your neck muscles and cause tightness or spasm. You might also get nerves pain that goes to your back and down your arm. Always try to hold your phone higher up when you text. Overuse in texting may give rise to Thumb arthritis. Always try to take break at least every 20 minutes while working on cell phone or computer. Yogic exercises are of great value in order to stay strong and avoid neck pain.
